ABRAM'S MARIAM
A FICTIONAL CREATION
BY CHAMBRAY BLUE
It had been a long night. Surely Abram would understand Mariam's late start as he came in from milking early to find her stirring the large pan of scrambled eggs one half hour after breakfast was usually on the table.
"Rebecca up last night?" Abram asked.
"She must be teething," replied Mariam as she added fried bacon strips to the eggs that were cooking on the stove.
"You should've saved the wash till later," Abram said.
"I'm sorry for the late breakfast," Mariam said, wiping the sweat from her brow. "I did need to get the wash out as early as possible. A storm is brewing, I feel it in my bones."
"Awe, don't worry about being late," Abram said, washing his hands in the sink. "Levi and Jacob are still feeding the animals. The boys had a scuffle between them and they are running a little late too. You know brothers." Miriam looked tired. "What's ailing you, wife?" Abram asks her.
"I think I am again with child," Mariam answers.
"God is good," Abram said.
"He certainly is," beams Mariam.
