CHELSEA, CHAMP, AND CHEESE CRACKERS
A FICTIONAL CREATION
BY CHAMBRAY BLUE
"I've got names for the piggies," Saul smiled, tossing a cheese cracker through the wire fence.
Sabrina was busy. Her friends were blowing up her phone, commenting on the adorable picture of Saul that she had shared with them. Barely hearing her four-year-old, Sabrina glanced over at him "yea, that's nice," she said. She laughed when she read Paul's comment, then Daffne sent multiple smiley faces. Her social media was wild with responses as well.
Sabrina had managed to collect 1,582 Facebook friends and 2,850 followers on Twitter. Instagram was lagging behind with just 844 followers. She'd have to work on that.
"Mommy look, Chelsea's still hungry."
Without looking up, Sabrina nodded and purposely sent a group message out to many of her friends, saving time.
"Stand closer," Sabrina motioned with her hand for Saul to draw in for a better shot. These wild boors were real 'hams' and seemed to love a good photo shoot, especially with food involved. "Here, hold this up so the piggie looks at the camera," she instructed Saul, giving him another cheese cracker. Her son obeyed.
"Chelsea and Champ," Saul smiled when he told his mom the names he picked out for the piggies.
"Sure, buddy," she replied, glued once again to her phone.
Saul chattered, telling his new friends about the bike his grandma gave him for his birthday. "I'll be going to church camp next week," Saul said. "So if you notice I'm missing you'll know where I am." Chelsea smiled. Champ searched the ground for more crackers.
Sabrina found a log nearby and sat, continuing to text and laugh and text some more, barely looking up.
"I think you have strong teeth," Saul said, "and a pretty smile." Chelsea was losing interest now, with no more crackers being thrown. Champ had already began to waddle away. Saul hung his head and joined his mother on the log.
"Can we go now?" Saul asked.
"In a minute," Sabrina said as she continued to finish her conversation with her friends. With his own newfound friends having went home, Saul felt lonely.
